Silent Vigil for Unity and Peace, 12 – 1 p.m., Central Park, near 8th and Monroe. Spend an hour in quiet presence with the intention of embracing unity, community, and peace. No speeches, no signs, no agenda, no devices—just being. See here for more information.
Untold Stories of OSU Walking Tour, 4 p.m., meet at the large metalwork football sculpture in the plaza on the east side of Reser Stadium, 660 SW 26th St. In this guided tour of OSU’s campus, learn about ten significant people, events, and locations pertaining to the history of students of color at Oregon State University and how they strived to make OSU a more inclusive and equitable campus. “Malni — Towards the Ocean, Towards the Shore,” 7 p.m., Detrick Hall, PRAx, 470 SW 15th St. A special screening of the film by artist and filmmaker Sky Hopinka. That circles circling the origin of the death myth from the Chinookan people in the Pacific Northwest. Free. See here.
Delgani String Quartet: Audience Choice – The Human Spirit, 7:30 p.m., First Presbyterian Church, 114 SW 8th St. Delgani concludes its 10th season with a special Delgani-audience collaboration. Subscribers have cast their votes for the primary work on this program: Shostakovich’s Eighth Quartet. Rounding out the performance will be works by Caroline Shaw and Beethoven. Spring Mainstage: “Hay Fever,” 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Ray Theater, PRAx, 470 SW 15th St. The Bliss family lives up to its name as the "quiet weekend" comes to an exhausting and hilarious finale in this classic and sexy farce. "Midge" Cramer (1931-1997), one of the founders of the Mid-Valley Bicycle Club. The standard route is 33 miles, with shorter and longer options. Spring Campus Ramble, 9 a.m. – noon, OSU campus. A long-standing program led by photographer Cub Kahn and writer Jill Sisson that invite a small group to slowly wander to a few select spots on campus to pause, reflect, write and take photographs. Corvallis Spring Roll, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. (11 a.m. – 12 p.m. road ride), Cloverland Park, 1605 NW 29th St. A community bike ride for kids to experience the thrill of riding independently in a safe and exciting environment. The long loop is for pedaled powered bicycles and the short loop is for balance bikes and trikes. Registration is $15/kid or $35/family. See here to register. PLAN AHEAD
Learn to Sew with Fifth Generation Sewing – Learn to sew in these classes taught by Dr. Michelle Marie, who has been sewing for over 35 years and holds a Ph.D. in Apparel Design and Human Environment. She teaches the importance of using your machine correctly and emphasizes the effectiveness of sewing conventions along with the value of expressing yourself with what you make. Classes through June are now available for registration and include: Sewing Machine Use; Basic Sewing Skills + Tiny Party Hat; Introduction to Patterns; Intermediate Sewing; Mending Magic; and 1:1s with Michelle. Fern & Feather Forest School Summer Camps – For children ages 7 – 12 to explore the natural world through games, art, observations, bushcraft, and more. Camps are week-long and are held at different locations in June, July and August. See here for the details.
Maxtivity Summer Art & Steam Camps - A variety of summer camps are offered for kids, ranging in ages from 5 - 13, such as Messy Art Camp in the Park; Creative Flow Camp: Kids Yoga and Art Camp; Design Your Own Game Camp; and Magic School Bus: Kinetic Sculpture Camp. Kids Ceramics Workshop – Kiki’s Art for All will have a two-day workshop from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m., June 7 and 14, at Ashbrook Independent School, in which kids will make musical shakers. The workshop will be led by Keira Lin, a current CVHS ceramics student, and Erik Olson, art teacher at Ashbrook Independent School. The cost is $50 per person, and all proceeds from this event will go towards making art kits for kids in need and will be donated to Vina Moses. CVHS Boys Basketball Youth Camp – To be held June 23 – 25, from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., for grades 4 – 8 (incoming 9th grade). The focus is to give youth players instruction and repetition around one of four basic skills (shooting, dribbling, passing, and defense). Cost is $60.
